ISO / TC 223 / WG3 Workshop
on Emergency Capability Assessment

1. Background
During the 10th WG 3 meeting of ISO/TC223 on Societal Security at Jonesburg, South Africa in November 2009, Chinese delegation has made a new work item proposal on “Emergency Capability Assessment”. The working group 3 and plenary meeting have agreed to hold a workshop in Beijing in April, 2010 which has been postponed due to the Volcano Eruption in Iceland. This workshop will be held in Shanghai China in September 2010.
2. Hosting Bodies and Sponsor
The workshop is Organized by Standardization Administration of China (SAC), Hosted by China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS) and Center for Public Safety Research Tsinghua University (CPSR, THU) and sponsored by National Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
3. Purpose
The purpose of this workshop will be to
- Collect similar “Emergency capability assessment” standards and research achievements from the ISO/TC 223 member countries as inputs of international standards;
-exchange ideas and principles of “Emergency Capability Assessment”;
-discuss the framework of the standard; and,
- draft a working document.

6. Expected Outcomes
A) A Collection of similar “Emergency capability assessment” standards used in the ISO/TC 223 member country
B) Collection of research achievements on “Emergency capability assessment”
C)Understand the practice of “Emergency Capability assessment” in different countries.
D) Reach agreement on the main framework of this standard.
E) Proposal of a new International Standard on “Emergency capability assessment”

It will be highly appreciated the participation by those researchers and practitioners who have expertise in “Emergency capability assessment” and interested in this topic. Those researchers and practitioners who are interested in this field are also welcomed.
